Video generation tools like Open AI Sora 2 open new doors for creative storytelling. But to get strong results, you need good prompt patterns. A well-structured prompt helps guide framing, lighting, motion, pacing, and mood. In this post I share 14 prompt templates you can use (or adapt) to produce polished video sequences. Each template gives a modular “fill in the blanks” style you can drop into, plus example prompts to get started.
I aim for human language, simple clear phrasing. You can mix or stack these templates (e.g. use a cinematic shot then a cut to an insert) or adapt them to your topic (education, marketing, narrative, etc.).
By the way, you can generate Awesome Sora 2 Prompts from our Free Sora 2 Prompt Generator
Let’s dive in.
General Prompt Design Principles
Before the templates, a few guidelines:
- Break down the prompt into logical parts: scene description, camera / lens / motion, lighting / color / palette, actions / beats / timing, dialogue (if any), and extra constraints.
- Use short phrases, not long paragraphs, in each part. The model tends to parse that better.
- If you want consistency across shots, reuse certain anchors (colors, mood words, lighting style).
- You can chain multiple templates (shot 1, shot 2, etc.) to build a sequence.
- Use “optional constraints” to prevent unwanted artifacts (e.g. “no interface overlays,” “no watermark,” “avoid unnatural faces,” “no big text labels”).
- Test small variations (swap “low key lighting” vs “soft lighting,” or “slow dolly forward” vs “steady zoom”) to see which yields better visuals.
I’ll present each template with:
- Prompt Template (a fill-in format you can copy)
- Explanation / notes of each part
- Example prompts (with real content) using that template
1. Prompt Template: Cinematic Single Shot
Prompt Template:
Scene: [description of characters, environment, mood, props]
Camera: shot type [e.g. close up / medium / wide / extreme wide], framing, angle, motion
Lens & focus: [lens focal length notion if needed, depth of field style]
Lighting & palette: lighting setup (key / fill / rim / ambient, direction), palette anchors [3–5 color words]
Actions / beats:
- Step 1: …
- Step 2: …
Dialogue (if any):
- Speaker1: “…”
- Speaker2: “…”
Optional constraints: [e.g. avoid overlays, no text, film grain, no unnatural faces, etc.]
Notes:
- This is a “one shot” or moment prompt: one camera setup, one scene moment.
- Use “lens & focus” to guide blurring or clarity (e.g. shallow depth of field for more cinematic feel).
- Actions / beats help the model animate movement within that shot.
- Dialogue is optional; many scenes are silent or rely on motion.
- Optional constraints prevent artifacts.
Example Prompt A (education / science):
Scene: a scientist in a high tech lab, holographic displays, glass tubes emitting soft glows, ambient mist
Camera: medium close up, slight low angle, slow dolly in
Lens & focus: focal length ~85 mm equivalent, shallow depth of field (background soft blur)
Lighting & palette: key light from top left, fill light subtle, rim light behind, palette anchors: teal, amber, white
Actions / beats:
- Step 1: scientist reaches hand toward hologram
- Step 2: hologram reacts, swirling data particles rising
Dialogue:
- Scientist: “Projecting real time quantum map.”
Optional constraints: no watermark, no big text overlays, avoid interface wires
Example Prompt B (narrative / marketing):
Scene: a person standing at cliff’s edge at sunset, wind in hair, ocean waves far below
Camera: wide shot, framing with subject off center, slow pan from right to left
Lens & focus: deep depth of field so both subject and background are sharp
Lighting & palette: warm golden light from setting sun, soft fill from below, palette: gold, blue, slate
Actions / beats:
- Step 1: person takes a deep breath, looks out
- Step 2: hair and clothes flutter in wind
Dialogue: none
Optional constraints: no lens flare, no UI overlays, avoid noise artifacts

How to Use / Combine These Templates
- You don’t have to stick to one template. Many videos blend several types. For instance: opening with Title Reveal (14), then Cinematic Single Shot (1), then Montage (3), then Dialogue Scene (4), and closing with Slow Motion (9).
- Keep your palette anchors consistent across shots to maintain cohesion (e.g. always “teal, amber, white” or “blue, gray, gold”).
- If your scenes shift drastically, consider a Transition Shot (you can repurpose Motion Reveal (7) or Time Lapse (11) as transitions).
- Use optional constraints actively to reduce artifacts (many video generation models generate unexpected overlays, ghosting, unnatural limbs, UI, text, etc.).

Tips for Better Results & Troubleshooting
- Start with fewer shots and simple prompts; once you see output, adjust detail / complexity gradually.
- If parts misrender (odd artifacts, warped shapes, weird hands), try adding constraints like “no distortion,” “avoid unnatural limbs,” “clean edges,” “no ghosting.”
- Use consistent color anchors (e.g. always include “teal, amber, white”) across shots to avoid jarring changes.
- If a shot looks dull, adjust lighting (e.g., rim light, backlight) or use “contrasty lighting.”
- If motion is shaky or jittery, explicitly say “smooth motion,” “steady dolly,” or “no jitter.”
- For transitions, you can insert short “motion reveal” or “fade dissolve” cues.
- When you change scene types (e.g. from interior to exterior), you may want a brief neutral shot as buffer or use a motion reveal template.
- Use examples as templates; swap the nouns, settings, mood words, actions, and you’ll get fresh results.
